The White House announced two Massachusetts district nominations on September 24, 2013: Mark G. Mastroianni and Indira Talwani. The press release identified Talwani as a partner at Segal Roitman LLP in Boston, previously a partner (1996–1999) and associate (1989–1995) at the San Francisco firm now known as Altshuler Berzon LLP, and a 1988–1989 law clerk to Judge Stanley A. Weigel of the Northern District of California. It listed a J.D. from Boalt Hall (Berkeley) in 1988 and a B.A. cum laude from Harvard College in 1982.
The District of Massachusetts court biography and the Federal Judicial Center both tie the vacancy to Mark L. Wolf (FJC: Mark Lawrence Wolf). FJC records the September 24, 2013 nomination with no Senate vote, then a January 6, 2014 renomination. A nomination without a vote is not a confirmation.
